btw -- for me it would be a toss up between Pengellys fish shop in Looe, fresh fish daily caught ( in part ) off their own boat.. they were also mentioned by Rick Stein in one of his shows.
or.. a shop in Liskeard(cornwall) called "Taste of the West" but everyone down there just knows it as Gary's , not surprisingly after the owner. Gary stared up as a barrow man but has slowly grown his shop offering top quality local products and a few interesting odd bits.... bison burger anyone?

Great topic GRYNCH.
Love him or hate him - Jamie Oliver is certainly dedicated to the good food cause.
There is also an amazing fish and chip shop that strangely enough is not by the sea (about 20 miles inland in Sussex) called The Master Fryer which consistantly serves the best fish and chips... and has done for the last 25 years! I now live another 25 miles away from it but whenever I visit my parents I have to pay a visit!
In my own area we have a great farm shop - Burdfield's run by a local farmer. Their bacon sandwiches are to die for.

There is a lovely food emporium in Kingsfold, West Sussex called The Wise Old Owl. It is a pub, restaurant and farm shop selling locally produced and (most importantly) delicious food. It is also very child friendly.
For great fish and chips try the Magpie Cafe in Whitby! Massive portions and very nice too!
I'm a proper carnivore but I once ate in a veggie restaurant called The Gate in Hammersmith, London and found it to be one of the nicest meals I've eaten anywhere.

Mrs.G and I have a house in Cornwall that we visit often ( hence all the Cornish references ) but we do not live there.

P.S.. and of course I don't want to, hope not to, start a row over this.. I suppose the basic assumption given that I am here on this forum is that I am there in the UK.

OK GRYNCH, you live on a large continent with an out-of-the-way fish & chip shop. Mmmm, my apologies.

and it appears I've lied to mr.E.. I've just looked it up and it's a measly 186miles to Nice ( as the crow flies ) .. add a few miles on to that for bars and arrogant french before you actually hit the ocean tho I suppose.
