I've written a couple of articles on top family days out in London and Manchester with some great options for different ages, complete with practical information. It's also worth knowing that to get to any UK destination by train, you can save an average of 39% if you buy train tickets in advance. Handy if you're taking the whole family! Both articles include the money saving information. The London arcticle is here: http://www.home.thetrainline.com/daysout/london.shtml and the Manchester article is here: http://www.home.thetrainline.com/daysout/manchester.shtml.Annelies

Hi katie1, I think London as a destination is definitely one of the most versatile places to go and it also has the best deals for families. The journey itself really depends on where you leave from I suppose! I don't really have an actual favorite journey, I'm always more interested in the destination.

I'm thinking of travelling to London Friday evening for the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. I haven't been into Central London at Christmas time for years (since I was a kid) so I'm really looking forward to taking my children.

A good place to learn about how you can save money on rail tickets is the forum at MSE (Money Saving Expert.com) UK hotels - UK tourist attractions
