As a child, a trip to London was always an exciting adventure. I think one of my most favourite places was the Natural History Museum. It was educational, but it never felt that you were learning.

Take the kids to South Kensington for a brilliant day out. Find out about the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum and then pop next door to the Science Museum for the interactive exhibits - it's perfect!

Take a picnic to Dartmoor and start at Haytor, it has steps most of the way up so is easy to climb for most age groups. The view from the top is well worth it towards Teignmouth and the sea. Walk past Haytor and explore the ruined medieval village in between Haytor and Hound Tor and don't forget to watch out for the wild Dartmoor ponies. You could even treat the kids to an ice-cream on the way back, unless you're really tight!

The Wey and Arun Canal in Loxwood, West Sussex is a perfect way to spend an English summers day. Its being restored to its former glory and a stroll along the tow path is like stepping back in time. Look out for the restored locks - beautiful!
